Patients may present for treatment with one or more of the following

 

  • Pain (aches, throbbing, night cramps, fatigue, heaviness, restlessness).  Pain is usually worsened by prolonged standing, menstruation and hot weather and relieved by elevation

 

  • Appearance

 

  • Swelling

 

  • Skin Changes (pigmentation, ulceration)

 

  • Bleeding

 

  • Superficial thrombophlebitis (STP): painful inflammation and clotting of the superficial veins

 

  • Consequences of leaving the veins untreated

 

  • Family history of complicated varicose veins
